Diabetes type 2 is a chronic condition that affects the way your body metabolizes sugar (glucose) – an important source of fuel for the body. Basically the body is not able to effectively use insulin to bring glucose into the cells, which causes the body to rely on alternative energy sources in your tissues, muscles and organs.
